Welcome to the Cookie Atom’s Resources and FAQ page. Here you will find all kinds of resources about Cookie Atom cables, building your own cable, connector pinouts and, anything we can think of that will be helpful to you.

Cookie Atom Cables

Will Cookie Atom Cables work on all keyboards?

We have not had any problems yet. We keep our cables under 3 meters which should be fine for most, if not all keyboards. But unfortunately, we don’t have the resources to test our cables on every keyboard model out there. If you experience any problems when using our cables, please contact us within 7 days after the delivery date. We are more than happy to help.

Can I use Cookie Atom Cables on other devices? (Power Banks, Cell Phones,…)

Even though they might work, we advise our customers not to do so. If you do, do so at your own risk.

What is the coil all about?

The coil is only there for aesthetics! It gives it that extra bit of “awesomeness”! Take care when handling the coil and do not stretch it out. Overstretching and rough handling will destroy the shape of the coil and it will not go back to its normal shape. Read more about taking care of your cable here.

Can I swap the host and device side from two different Aviator cables?

Yes, all cables manufactured by Cookie Atom after February 2021 can be swapped around. But, we can’t promise that they will work with cables from other manufacturers.

Why are Cookie Atom prebuilt cables out of stock?

Unfortunately, this will happen more than what we would like it to. All Cookie Atom Cables are hand made, meaning we put some good time in each cable to make sure we provide a quality product. We are a small team, so keeping up with the demand does get a little difficult sometimes. But we will do our best to keep the stock available.

What if my cable is faulty?

We test our cables a few times during the building process and then again before they go into the packaging. If for any reason you think you received a faulty cable, please contact us as soon as possible after taking delivery of your cable.

My cable looks different than what is shown in the product image?

Due to the fact that all Cookie Atom cables are hand-made, slight variations may be noticed. This can include a cable being slightly shorter or longer, a coiled cable missing a “coil” or having an extra one. The colors of our products might also look slightly different than what is shown on the product image.

Design Your Own Cable

How does this work?

This service is perfect for anyone that would like to have a custom cable, but doesn’t want to build it. We give you the opportunity to choose what you want and we will build the cable for you. Currently, we will use the same design we use on our coiled cables for the coiled cables, for example, the coil size and lengths, but planning to have more customisation options in the future.

When do I get my cable?

While we would love to ship out your cable the next day, this is unfortunately not possible. Depending on the order load, it will take 5 to 10 business days to complete your cable.

This service is “out of stock”?

Yes, from time to time we will change these services to “out of stock”. The reason for this is to catch up to orders.

What if my cable is faulty?

We test our cables a few times during the building process and then again before they go into the packaging. If for any reason you think you received a faulty cable, please contact us as soon as possible after taking delivery of your cable.

What if I want a cable that you don’t offer?

If you are looking for something different than what we offering at the moment, please don’t hesitate to contact us and we will see how we can help you.

DIY

What is this all about?

We love building cables! It is an awesome feeling grabbing some Paracord, TechFlex, Heat Shrink, chuck in some connectors, and mix them all together to create a beautiful cable that you can add to your setup! But, we know how difficult it is to get all the materials and components one would need to build a cable. We source all our materials and components from all over the globe and use them ourselves to make sure they meet our standards, and we want to share that with you! We stock everything you would need to build cables! So go ahead and grab a few things, and have fun!

What do I need to build a cable?

What tools do I need?

You will need some of the following:

  • Soldering Iron and some Soldering Wire
  • Heat gun and lighter
  • Small screwdrivers
  • Side cutters
  • Small pliers
  • Stanley knife
  • Wire Stripper

What length cable can I build?

We suggest keeping it around 3 meters. Be aware when coiling a cable the length of the cable will increase drastically. For example, 1 cm of coil on a 16 mm coiling rod will be approximately 13 cm of cable.

I don’t know how to build a cable...

We know it may look like a daunting task, but we promise you it is not too difficult. With a little effort and research, it is possible. We will do our best to add guides and information to help you. Feel free to contact us anytime if you have any questions.

What are the pin-outs for the connectors?

The USB cable that you will be using consists of 4 cores. These are color-coded and will assist you with the assembling of your cable. It is best practice to use the same pin-outs on all your cables. There is also a drain wire in the USB cable, you can attach the drain wire to the casing of the connector. The easiest way is to run it between the cable and the crimping area on the USB-A, USB-C, Mini-USB, and Micro-USB. On the 4-pin Aviator, connector you can run it between the cable and the “saddle” before tightening it.

General

Taking care of your cable.

It is obvious that you will have to take care of your cable, just like anything else. So here are just a few pointers on this matter:

  • Handle it gently. Basically don’t throw it out of a moving vehicle. Show it some love.
  • Don’t stretch the coil out. It can handle small amounts of stretching, but using it for a tug of war contest will just destroy it.
  • Pull on the connector when plugging it in and out, don’t grab it by the cable.
  • The cable doesn’t like flames. Make sure to grab it first when your house is on fire.
  • When your cable is dusty, clean it with compressed air or a soft brush. Don’t use a damp cloth.
  • You should not be dropping your keyboard, but if you do, unplug the cable first.
  • Slight twisting on connectors will be fine, but don’t overdo it.
